Great In Your Garden

Hostas are famous for their shade tolerance. They are tough plants that grow on the coast and polluted urban sites.

Did You Know?

Alcyone was the daughter of King Aeolus and the wife of King Ceyx of Thessaly. Her husband was lost at sea, and in her grief she threw herself into the waters to be with him. The gods were so touched by her devotion that they resurrected her and her husband as kingfishers. And that, O best beloved, is how the kingfisher got its name, Alcedo.

Cultivation Instructions

Hostas like rich, well-drained but moist soil in shaded/semi-shaded position. Add compost when planting and keep well watered until established and during dry spells.

In spring, apply general purpose fertiliser and mulch well. Remove dead flower heads. Protect from slugs and snails. Divide large clumps from autumn-early spring.
